Usability

Whooley

Process

  • Problem: Barrier to use
  • Once a user registers on Whooley, existing explanation is not sufficient to explain the app’s purpose, features, and functionality.

  • Problem: Declining user engagement
  • If a user registers on Whooley understands the app’s features, the majority of users are not creating Whooleys.

Based on the heuristics evaluation, the app failed to meet several industry standards. Not all interactive objects appear click- able, the system provides more features than user needs, and system does not speak users’ language, (i.e. user is not familiar with app’s vocabulary, phrases, concepts).

The usability sessions highlighted several issues with the app including users’ general lack of understanding of a “Whooley.” The lack of generated content (i.e. events) available reduced users desire to use app, features were not clearly defined or explained, navigational elements did not meet users’ expectations, sharing a location with a friend seemed like a breach of privacy, and the plethora of available features did not distinguish this app from similar competitors such as GroupMe or Facebook.

Post my usability analysis, I recommended that the client either consider a new target market with the same app features or re-invent the app’s features and functionality.
